Moussa Diakite says he wants everyone to do something to make a difference during the new coronavirus pandemic. He lives in the Bronx and makes deliveries for Fairway Market, and lives paycheck to paycheck. And yet, he still saved up a week’s pay to buy hundreds of surgical masks, gloves and bottled water to bring to employees at the 86th Street store on the Upper East Side, a nearby firehouse and post office.
Moussa also does charity work in his native Mali, and recently made similar donations at Harlem Hospital and Montifiore Medical Center.
"This is who I am. I just like to help people," said Moussa Diakite. "That's what I love to do. That's why I give back to the United States. We are all blessed to be here."

So many families are relying on food donations, but volunteers are desperately needed to get that food where it is needed most. Some people are making it easier for you to do just that.
"InItTogether has signed up over 500 volunteers,” said Kasumi Quinlan. “We send them to the volunteer shifts where they're needed most, whether it's packing grocery bags or delivering food to holocaust survivors."

An anonymous donor gave Loyola High School on the Upper East Side a $20,000 donation to help feed hospital workers. Loyola chose Metropolitan Hospital in East Harlem because two Loyola School parents, Liliana Rodriguez-Guzman and Madeline Hernandez, work there.
Loyola also set up a special fund for its “Lunch 4 Life Help Loyola Help Others” project.
