Time Warner Cable News highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment "App Wrap."
This may be the most terrifying mobile app ever created. Terrifying in the way one might expect, and actually want, at Halloween. Put out by Britain’s Horror Channel, it’s called Night Terror. You choose a story, which are rated based on how scary they are. Then hit play and lay your phone down next to your pillow at night.
As you sleep, it will begin telling you a scary story, just a few minutes long and then it waits...
The app is designed to use the phone’s accelerometer to detect when you’re in REM sleep. Then it starts playing eerie sound effects aimed at your subconscious in the hopes that, as you begin to dream, your subconscious will turn that dream into a nightmare.
After all is said and done, the app will rate how well you did from Big Sissy to Master of Terror. Horror Channel’s Night Terror is a free app for iOS devices.
Or, for a little less intense Halloween fun…there are loads of apps for turning yourself into scary creatures, but Poe Yourself is a bit different. As the name suggests, you create a scene, with yourself in it, based on some themes you’d find in Edgar Allan Poe stories.
There are costumes, decorations, crows, weapons, all designed to create an eerie Poe image. The app is actually designed to help promote the iPoe collection of interactive eBook stories by Edgar Allan Poe.
Poe Yourself is a free app for iOS devices, though if you like it enough you can in app purchase extra effects for one dollar.
