EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — California's homelessness crisis remains the worst in the nation. But with Measure A — the half-cent homelessness sales tax — officials hope to make a lasting change over the next five years.

A new response to the crisis was set to open in Compton Thursday, and the timing and strategy behind it sidesteps recent bureaucratic upheaval in the construction industry that is reeling from tariffs.

Spectrum News visited Compton's new permanent supportive housing development that was converted from the Willow Tree Inn — an old motel — and includes 100 units.

Josh Hertz, director of development at The People Concern, shared more on the development.
