WAKE CO., N.C. — Growth continues at Raleigh-Durham International as the airport recently reported both higher passenger traffic and more destinations for travelers.
In the month of May, over 1.4 million passengers traveled through RDU, according to the airport. That’s an increase of 8.6% from the month before.
The busiest day was Sunday, May 25, when over 27,000 took to the skies, said President and CEO Michael Landguth.
“Travel for Memorial Day, Mother’s Day and college graduations added up to a busy month in May,” he said. “With a new airline, new destinations and new dining concepts coming on board, we are preparing for a high-traffic summer season.”
Guy’s Pizza Joint has opened in Terminal 2, offering travelers a dining option before boarding their flight. It's part of RDU’s “Reimagine” campaign.
Also, as Independence Day approaches, Landguth added it’s more important to get to the airport ahead of time and with the right things, like a Real ID or other federally approved form of identification.
Departing passengers should give themselves at least two hours before their flight to get through security.
