The Ohio BMV said residents have reported receiving texts from scammers pretending to be someone from the BMV. In these texts, they claim the recipient has an outstanding traffic ticket, then instructs them on how to pay to avoid license suspension.

“If you receive this text, do not fall for this scam,” said Ohio BMV Registrar Charlie Norman. “Do not click any links and delete the text. Ohio BMV will never send you a text demanding payment or requesting your personal information.”

Officials warn the scammers are trying to get residents to give up personal or financial information. Ohioans can report any scams to the Federal Trade Commission by clicking here.
