PASADENA, Calif. — George Orwell’s "Animal Farm" was first published in 1945 and adapted as a stage musical in 1984 with music by Richard Peaslee, lyrics by Adrian Mitchell and direction by Peter Hall.

An allegorical fable originally written in response to the Russian Revolution of 1917, "Animal Farm" has remained a staple of school reading lists and has been adapted to other media many times.

A Noise Within’s production of "Animal Farm," directed by Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, runs through Oct. 2 in Pasadena.
