EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Percy Miller came from humble beginnings in New Orleans. He went on to build an entire music empire and eventually became one of the most successful hip hop brands in history.

Now widely known as Master P, the 53-year-old rap superstar continues to live out his dream by expanding his horizons. He is documenting it all in a new BET docuseries, No Limit Chronicles.

Master P is also an advocate for black ownership and believes the recent protests are a positive starting point. "Music is for the soul, and we definitely need that, doing a Black Lives Matter in times that we're going through right now," he said.

Here are five things you need to know about Master P and his recent initiatives:

  1. Born Percy Miller, he is a rapper, actor, record producer, philanthropist and former professional basketball player. He is the founder of the record label No Limit Records, which was since relaunched as New No Limit Records.
  2. With 15 albums, Master P has appeared in 18 television shows and 45 films.
  3. Miller has dedicated his time to communities through P. Miller Youth Centers and his P. Miller Food Foundation for the Homeless.
  4. On June 19, 2020, Master P announced his own rice brand, Uncle P’s Louisiana seasoned rice, which he hopes major retailers will begin selling. He said it’s a way to "put money back into our community."
  5. The New Orleans native moved to Richmond, California after college.  We were able to change history to where people started listening to southern hip hop," he said. "It changed the game because we didn’t try to be like everyone else. At one time, if you weren’t from the west coast or east coast, then it was hard to put music out."
