1. Robert Prevost is selected as the first American pope in history. He took the name Leo XIV
Cardinal Robert Prevost, an American missionary born in Chicago who spent his career ministering in Peru and leads the Vatican’s powerful office of bishops, was elected the first American pope in the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church.Prevost, 69, took the name Leo XIV.

2. Father of 15-year-old Abundant Life Christian School shooter arrested
The father of a Wisconsin teenage girl who killed a teacher and fellow student in a school shooting was arrested Thursday in connection with the case, an official told The Associated Press. Police said 42-year-old Jeffrey Rupnow was taken into custody around 3:45 a.m. on May 8. He's being charged with the delinquency of a child and two counts of providing a dangerous weapon to a person under 18 resulting in death.
3. Suspect in deadly Cottage Grove car crash found dead at Dane County Jail
The man suspected of killing a woman and her dog with his car on April 28 was found dead in his jail cell, according to the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office. The examiner's office confirmed 49-year-old Jeffrey Endres died at the Dane County Jail on Tuesday, May 6.
4. New pope selection provides historic learning lesson for Catholic school students
Eyes across the world were fixed on the chimney of the Sistine Chapel for white smoke, indicating the next pope was chosen on Thursday afternoon. The historic moment has been a teaching opportunity for Catholic schools around the country, including at Divine Mercy Catholic School in South Milwaukee.
5. Removing the spectacle: Stranded boat finally recovered from Milwaukee lakefront
The S.S. Minnow or “Deep Thought” was finally removed from the Milwaukee lakefront on Tuesday last week after being in the water since October. A team of tow truck drivers from All City Towing collaborated with the county to remove the boat. The crew was on site for over 10 hours to get the job done.
