RALEIGH-- When former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt first attracted Japan-based Ajinomoto to Raleigh more than 35 years ago, they had no idea they would grow and expand 7 times.  And now, they're celebrating another milestone, with a $30 million facility addition that will create jobs and expand their reach.

Lawmakers will join Japanese and company leaders to celebrate the major milestone on Monday, July 17th from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. at 4015 Poole Road in Raleigh.

Leaders at Ajinomoto say the Japanese company picked Raleigh to build it's first location to mass produce amino acids, the building blocks of protein found in everything from IV solutions to baby formula and sports supplements.  Right now, the Triangle plant employs more than 200 people, and they only anticipate hiring more employees next year after the expansion is complete.

North Carolina Commerce Secretary and Secretary of State will attend the birthday and groundbreaking ceremony.  Speeches begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Groundbreaking soon after.  For more information on Ajinomoto Co., visit their website.
