The groundbreaking was attended by the following organizations: The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Mineral Resources Management (MRM), the Survivor Advocacy Outreach Program (SAOP) and the Glouster Revitalization Organization (GRO).

The project will be reclaiming/renovating a downtown building and park, thanks to $2.8 million from the ODNR MRM Abandoned Mine Land Revitalization (AMLER) program, according to an ODNR press release.

“The Village of Glouster has a long coal mining history,” ODNR MRM Chief Benny McCament said in the release. “Everyone involved in this revitalization project and many others in Glouster are all interested in investing in the environment, the economy, and in those who call the Village of Glouster, home.”

According to the ODNR, this project is part of a larger revitalization effort in the town with a population of—according to Census data—1,556.

“Using AMLER funds, the Knights of Pythias building will be transformed into a small business startup space, a remote work center, and community coworking space,” the release reads. “The first floor will create a venue for food-based entrepreneurs in a shared kitchen environment that can house six businesses, with the goal of bringing fresh produce and local food options to the community.”

Work is also being done to the Glouster Memorial Park, which is getting a new information office, improvements to the baseball fields and new playground equipment.
