A group of veterans is making kayaks in the Hudson Valley as a therapeutic way to readjust to civilian life.

Veterans Wooden Boat Workshop helps vets reintegrate into society through community service and other projects like building kayaks.

Four armed forces veterans who built kayaks by hand launched them into Rondout Creek in Ulster County on Wednesday. Those involved with the program say the experience has helped them find purpose after the military.

"To hand cut everything, mold everything, then to be able to put in the water and float around in it, one of the best things I've done so far," says Marine veteran and program participant William Carr.

Organizers say the next boat building project will start in July and is free of charge to veterans.
