The Honolulu Fire Department unveiled two new online data dashboards that allows residents to search for and keep track of emergency incidents across the island.

The Incident Trend Dashboard and the Fire Response Search Tool are available on HFD’s website (scroll down).

Organized by the 43 fire stations’ administrative service areas, the Incident Trend Dashboard provides users with a visual overview of five years’ worth of data in four categories — fire, rescue, emergency medical and hazardous materials — offering insight into the frequency and nature of emergencies in communities.

Interactive maps, charts and graphs transform complex data into easy-to-understand visuals. Whether users are tracking an increase in nuisance fires, analyzing seasonal wildland fire trends or reviewing medical and rescue call volumes by neighborhood, the dashboard makes the information easily available.

The Fire Response Search Tool replaces the previous Response Mapping Tool, which has been taken offline. This search tool enhances transparency, allowing users to search for specific emergency incidents in a user-friendly format.

These tools were developed by the HFD’s Planning and Development division’s Strategic and Risk Management section and an intern from the City and County of Honolulu’s Poʻokela Fellows Internship Program.

The launch of these tools supports one of HFD’s goals to empower residents by helping them learn from past trends to gain a clearer understanding of their emergency landscape. In this way, HFD aims to promote emergency preparedness, create resilient communities and encourage proactive involvement in public safety. Future dashboards are currently being developed.
