HONOLULU — Free COVID-19 testing for Oahu residents is increasing due to demand, according to a City and County of Honolulu press release.

Beginning on April 20, the Mobile Lab at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport will be open every day except for Sundays.

Free testing is also available at Honolulu Hale on Fridays and at Kapolei Hale on Wednesdays. However, the testing sites will be closed on holidays.

In March, the City and County of Honolulu scaled down its free COVID-19 testing from seven to five days a week at the Mobile Lab at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

At the time, the reduction in free COVID-19 testing dates was due to the drop in coronavirus cases, but recently they have been increasing.

On Wednesday, the Hawaii Department of Health reported over the week that there were 1,736 new coronavirus cases, 17 more deaths and a statewide average positivity rate of 7.1%. The previous week there were 1,3287 new coronavirus cases, 8 deaths and the statewide average positivity rate was 4.9%.
