Since Botox got FDA approval for cosmetic use in 2002, it has become a billion dollar industry. Now, we have an exclusive look at the next big thing. Kybella is the world's first FDA-approved fat dissolving injection and it is for the chin.

"Primarily it's responsible for being injected into what we call the submental crease, which is what we call basically that double chin that nobody likes and nobody wants,” explains plastic surgeon Dr. Sachin M. Shridharani.

Dr. Shridharoni is the first plastic surgeon in New York and one of only a handful in the country selected to inject Kybella in patients. He says like Botox, Kybella is a game changer. Unlike Botox, Kybella permanently destroys fat and gives you a much more defined looking jawline.

"It helps dissolve the fat away over the span of several weeks, which is a permanent solution for treating this area," he says.

Kybella recently got unanimous FDA approval. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent on testing.

It works best on people with mild to moderate amounts of fat under the chin. It takes a couple of treatments spaced about a month apart. The medication used is extracted from a soy plant.

"We're able to not have to use animals or humans. It decreases the risk of allergic reactions to the product itself," says Dr. Shridharani.

He says the risk is no greater than other injectables like Botox.

"There is always a risk of a little bit of tenderness and pain that can last up to a few days to a week. Some patients have a little bit of numbness, some people feel like it's a little bit full in their neck region," says Dr. Shridharani.

He warns against any doctor who offers to inject Kybella into any area other than the neck.

"Other studies are going to come out to show the safety, the profile, the efficacy altogether on how well we can treat those areas, but for the time being, we want to target just on what the FDA has given approval for," says Dr. Shridharani.

He says people with loose-hanging skin are not good candidates for Kybella. They would need a surgical procedure, such as a neck lift.
