Honolulu Police Department officers will set up impaired driver checkpoints from May 1 through June 30 at unannounced locations and times throughout Oahu, including during the Memorial Day and King Kamehmeha Day holidays, according to a news release.

The ongoing effort is meant to reduce traffic injuries and deaths.

HPD reminds the public not to drink and drive, that the legal drinking age is 21, and that promoting intoxicating liquor to a person under 21 is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison.

Since Sept. 2024 and continuing through Sept. 2025, HPD has been conducting impaired driver checkpoints weekly as part of the “52/12” sobriety checkpoint program.
