How about a Getaway to Montreal? It's a very big city so today, just the Latin Quarter. This is where I found the boutique hotel Hotel Le Relais Lyonnais. Old 19th century architecture with comfortable, modern amenities at an affordable price.
Tip: Ask for a room away from the street. Rue St-Denise can be noisy late night! Your room rate includes breakfast in the hotel's restaurant down below.
The neighborhood is eclectic and lively, near the University and plenty of restaurants and bars. Also close to the gay village with a pedestrian street. Other attractions, like Old Montreal, are walkable.
Another great find, Swartz's, a famous smoked meat deli with sit-down service and lots of personality! Montreal's version of New York's Carnegie Deli!
