CHARLOTTE – CMS Superintendent Ann Clark said Wednesday that she's concerned about recruiting and retaining teachers in the future.
Clark spoke to parents, community leaders and teachers about her plans for the district as MeckEd hosted its first community conversation of the year.
She says without the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program, it'll be tough to convince high school students to study education in college.
"It worries me greatly that this is our last group of students coming through that pipeline and I believe we need an immediate press, across the state, to think about what we're going to do,” she said.
The teaching fellows program was cut in 2011 but the students in the program were allowed to continue through 2015.
MeckEd plans to host several more community conversations throughout the year.
