The death of a young woman on Staten Island has been ruled a homicide, and now her boyfriend is facing upgraded charges.
The Medical Examiner determined 23-year-old Alyssa Johnson died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck.
She was found unconscious inside an apartment on North Railroad Avenue near Cromwell Avenue around 2 a.m. Thursday.
Johnson's 23-year-old boyfriend Jeffrey McDonald is now being charged with manslaughter.
A neighbor was shocked to hear about the incident.
"She seemed so nice," the neighbor said. "You know she was like shy, she didn't seem like the wild type. So the fighting, it surprised me."
According to sources, McDonald called 911 and told officers he got into an argument with his girlfriend and then left the house.
Sources say he told police he found Johnson unconscious once he returned home.
