BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The friend of a Buffalo woman killed on New Year's Day is asking people to help support the victim's children.

Police say 30-year-old Shanna Mason was shot to death on Gold Street around 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

Mason's children, an 11-year-old daughter, a seven-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son, are staying with their grandmother.

Mason's friends say they're raising money to help cover the children's care and hopefully begin a college fund.

They're also asking for donations to set up a birthday party for Mason's youngest daughter next week.

"We just want to make sure that she feels the love for her birthday because its already going to be a hard time for her not having her mom," said Mason's friend Nicole Magby. "I mean, I don't know what it would feel like not having my mom for my birthday. So we want to make this an extra special one for her."

Organizers say they'll be accepting financial donations as well as any candy, food, drinks or paper products.

The party is set to take place from 6 to 9 p.m. next Friday at the Kiddy Skateland on East Ferry Street.

You can also donate online by going to her GoFundMe page.
