SAN ANTONIO — From City Hall to the classroom, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg will be the Calgaard Distinguished Professor of Practice in the Department of Communications at Trinity University, the school announced.

Nirenberg will assume the role beginning in August, according to the university. The mayor is no stranger to this classroom in particular, as Trinity University is his old stomping grounds. Nirenberg graduated from the university in 1999 summa cum laude with a bachelor's in communications. Nirenberg will teach communications courses in the upcoming school year.

Trinity University announced the news on Monday with a statement included from Nirenberg.

“I’m honored to return to Trinity this coming year,” said Nirenberg. “My time as a student here shaped who I am as a leader, and I’m eager to give back to the institution that helped launch my career. I look forward to engaging with students and faculty as we explore the ways communication, public policy, and leadership intersect to shape our communities.”

The Calgaard Distinguished Professor of Practice is an endowed faculty position named in honor of former Trinity University President Ronald K. Calgaard, according to Trinity University.
