AKRON, Ohio — The U.S. Marshals announced Monday it located 32 missing children in the Akron and Summit County areas.

  • The U.S. Marshals carried out "Operation Homecoming" with the Akron Police Department and Summit County Sheriff's Office over the course of three weeks, from Aug. 19 to Sept. 6

  • Some of the children were found in the Akron area, whereas others were found in Cleveland, and one child, who was reported missing by the Akron Police Department in 2022, was found in Washington state

  • Officials worked with the Summit County Children's Services to ensure resources were provided to the rescued children, especially those who have been missing for a longer period of time

The U.S. Marshals carried out "Operation Homecoming" with the Akron Police Department and Summit County Sheriff's Office over the course of three weeks, from Aug. 19 to Sept. 6. Officials worked to identify missing and endangered children, and those rescued ranged in ages from 13 to 18 years old. 

“Dedicated work by our Missing Child Unit along with Akron Police and the Sheriff’s Office have made an incredible impact in the safe recovery of these children," said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott in a release. "The U.S. Marshals Service will continue to dedicate its time and resources to the safe recovery of missing children in our communities throughout northern Ohio.”

Some of the children were found in the Akron area, whereas others were found in Cleveland, and one child, who was reported missing by the Akron Police Department in 2022, was found in Washington state. 

“The partnership and devoted work by law enforcement in this operation directly led to the safe recovery of the missing child located across the country," said Akron Police Chief Brian Harding in a release.

Officials worked with the Summit County Children's Services to ensure resources were provided to the rescued children, especially those who have been missing for a longer period of time.
