OHIO — Kirtland snapped Perry's 18-game winning streak with a bold touchdown and two-point conversion in triple overtime for a 22-21 win over Perry.
The Hornets (3-0) trailed 21-14 in the third extra session before Jake LaVerde lined up from the halfback position and tossed a touchdown to Niko Samac. LaVerrde kept it and scrambled in for the winning margin.
Kirtland avenged last season's regular season loss to the Pirates. Both teams went on to win state titles a year ago, the Hornets in Division VI and Perry in Division V.
The Pirates (2-1), who have moved up to DIvision IV this season, travel to Cleveland Central Catholic next week, while Kirtland hosts Independence.
