Every Thursday afternoon, the Ohio Department of Health releases updated COVID-19 cases involving students and staff. The Department of Health says weekly case counts include full-time or part-time students and staff members who have tested positive or been diagnosed with COVID-19. Staff members include teachers, administrators, support staff and coaches, the state says.

While collectively, fewer COVID-19 cases are being reported in schools, it should be noted that several districts have at times not reported cases to the state. Cleveland and Cincinnati both did not report cases for the week of Oct. 28 but reported figures for the week of Nov. 4.

In the official figures released by the state on Nov. 4, 3,379 new COVID-19 cases were reported among Ohio’s school students and 639 cases among staff. The week prior, 4,022 new COVID-19 cases were reported among Ohio’s school students and 616 cases among staff. These figures do not include cases from several large districts including Cleveland and Cincinnati.

The prior week, 4,319 cases among students were reported and 792 cases among staff.

Cases are down from a peak of 8,524 the week prior and 1,191 combined cases the week of Sept. 16.

The state of Ohio will next update its dashboard on Nov. 11.

Spectrum News will continue to track the rates of COVID-19 among students as more data continues to be released by the state health department.
