COLUMBUS, Ohio — New data by Trust for America's Health and Well Being Trust shows that nearly 152,000 Americans died from alcohol, drugs or suicide in 2018.

That's nearly equal to what it was in 2017, despite progress in reducing overall deaths due to prescription opioid abuse.

John Auerbach, the president and CEO of Trust for America's Health discusses how the current pandemic has the potential to change the trajectory of these trends, as major disasters often lead to an increase in mental health and substance use disorders.
