COLUMBUS, Ohio — At a press conference on Monday, Columbus police provided an update into Saturday's shooting that left eight people injured.
Earlier Monday, police said Jusiah Mason, 18, who had been in critical condition following the shooting, died as a result of his injury on Sunday.
Columbus police Sgt. Joe Albert said the remaining victims were either 17- or 18-years-old. The other victims are expected to survive their injuries.
"We need and we are begging for the public's help," Albert said during Monday's press conference. "We need your help. We need you to step forward."
Albert said from information currently had that there were several individuals who produced and fired firearms at the area of the incident that then fled following the shooting.
"We're also asking any business owners or residents in the area south of W. State St., west of South High St., north of West Rich St. and east of Civic Center Drive to provide us video," he added.
The shooting happened around 3 a.m. on June 14 near S. Ludlow Street and W. Town Street and left five adults and one juvenile with gunshot wounds. Another juvenile had injuries not related to gunshots.
Albert said the police had received calls from residents of the crowd before the shooting describing 50 to 80 people were gathered.
The homicide unit was already involved in the investigation because of the severity of Mason's injury.
"Gun violence in our city has to stop. It has to end," Albert said. "We need the young adults and juveniles in our city to realize there's more to life than gun violence."
Detectives believe there was a crowd present and are asking anyone who may have video, photographs or other evidence sent it to the police to help with the investigation. The information can be submitted anonymously.
