LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thurby is known for more than just the 12 horse races. Live music, style contests, and an array of festive beverages and cuisine entice thousands to attend.

  •  Churchill Downs is offering a variety of new and old favorites at consession stands

  •  One of the new additions is the pimento cheese slider, similar to those found at the Masters 

  •  The new food items will be available through the weekend

Guest Francesca Cone made her first visit to the track. Cone said, “We’ve been planning for a while. We’re doing Thurby, Oaks, and Derby. The whole nine.”

Others have been the Kentucky Derby many times and plan on attending in the future. Michael Gross and his wife have made this week an annual tradition. Gross said, “We’ve been here the last five years and going on.” Gross added they will at the Oaks and Derby as well.

Churchill concessions employee, Courtney Stewart said she has worked at at Churchill Downs on and off for over 20 years. Stewart said she enjoys being a part of this Louisville tradition. “I just love being around people y’all. It just gives me good energy and I like to share it. It’s all love here, and this is what I do.”

Another Churchill concessions employee said the track is introducing a new food item to the event menu. Jude Stewart said, “Something special that Churchill asked for [was] the Master’s Golf Tournament has always had those pimento cheese sandwiches. [They are] so famous for them, so we’re looking forward to getting everybody their famous pimento cheese sandwich here at Churchill.”
