Mike Solarte is a Chicago native who relocated down south to become an original member of the Spectrum News Charlotte team in 2002. As a Charlotte sports reporter, Mike considers one of the greatest parts of his job to be the ability to tell the stories of some of the greatest athletes in the world.
This Associated Press Award winner has no shortage of triumphant sports stories under his belt, however, one of Mike's most memorable stories was his coverage of a UNC football game when a referee suffered a sudden heart attack. Thankfully, the referee survived, and Mike was able to share his story with the community only weeks later.
When Mike isn’t covering the latest sports report, you can find him with his hands full with three kids and three dogs, or taking some time off with a round of golf. While North Carolina may be known for its beautiful beaches and mountains, this collegiate golf player says that nothing in the state can out-do its golf courses.
