JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A group of educators and parents in Johnston County are asking the Board of Education to reconsider its vote to return students to a mix of remote and in-person learning next month.

All K-12 students will be on Plan B beginning February 1.

On Wednesday, the group of parents and educators held a press conference, pleading for the board to delay face-to-face instruction.

The group pointed to the twelve North Carolina educators who have died from COVID-19, saying a safe workplace should be a top priority.

"What we would really like is another board meeting, right?," says President of Johnston County Association of Educators April Lee. "A special session so that they have an opportunity to reverse their decision and keep the health of educators at the forefront."

The group wants to see a guaranteed six feet of space between students within the building, more transparency in virus data within the district, and access to vaccines for all educators.

The Johnston County Board of Education is currently scheduled to meet again on February 9.
