Dave Catalfamo has been around New York politics for decades. He's taken the old adage of "write what you know" and turned into a book: "Dynasty on the Hudson."

The book is a thriller that takes some very real events of the last several decades and turns it into a page turner.

The story in "Dynasty on the Hudson" combines Primary Colors with House of Cards, and many of the characters are familiar to anyone who has a passing knowledge of Albany in the last 10 years or so. The main character, not surprisingly, is based on former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

"When I stepped back from the events of really the past 20 years — you couldn't make this stuff up in a Hollywood script," Catalfamo said. "Andrew Cuomo is one of the most compelling American political figures since LBJ in my view. He is deep, he's complex, and I think he's a really interesting character."

Catalfamo's source material is based in large part on being a longtime political operative and consultant. He was involved in Republican Gov. George Pataki's successful run for governor in 1994, and some of the information generated then helped inform the book today.

"Dynasty on the Hudson" is currently available as an e-book on the Kindle app.
