The family of Bianca Devins is honoring her life by helping someone else reach their dreams.

Devins' family handed out the first Bianca Michelle Devins Memorial Scholarship yesterday. The first recipient is Tiana Guzman, a Utica College student who hopes to have a career in art therapy.

17-year-old Bianca Devins was killed by Cicero-native Brandon Clark on Boilermaker Sunday last year.

Now, the scholarship will go to someone pursuing a goal similar to hers: helping kids who are battling mental illness.

"Bianca struggled a lot in her young life, mainly with mental health. But she always found silver linings with things and that was kind of always her motto, was to find the silver lining. So for us, this is one of the silver linings; to be able to help someone with the same dream and goals that Bianca had," said Kim Devins, Bianca's mom.

Devins' family also gave Guzman a framed copy of a painting Bianca completed in an art therapy program.
