The water supply for many residents in Central New York was threatened last year after harmful algae blooms were found in Skaneateles Lake.

On Wednesday, a forum was held to give residents an update on the water's quality. Town officials and the Skaneateles Lake Association spoke about their action plan to prevent future algea blooms and how residents can help prevent exposure.

Residents say they were encouraged by the large turnout.

"The lake is the most important asset we have in Skaneateles and it's important that we all get together and organize to protect the lake and that means inidividual residents, that means the farm community, that means the maintenance crews," said Holland Gregg, a Skaneateles resident.

Governor Cuomo announced last year, that $65 million would be included in this year's budget to help imporve water quality.
