Anyone driving past the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library on Thursday afternoon may have seen dozens dressed in green, dancing and celebrating.

That's because May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and green is the official color.

The library, along with the Restoration Society Inc., Best Self Behavioral Health, Buffalo Psychiatric Center, Mental Health Peer Connection, and the Erie County Department of Mental Health put on their seventh annual Flash Mob and Educational Mental Health Fair.

The agencies were there educating the public about the services they offer and creating meaningful conversation about the topic.

But more than that, the goal of the day is to tell people it's OK to seek help if you struggle with a mental illness.

"A lot of people like to hide it, but it's OK to say you need help,” said Michelle Scheib, a senior peer advocate with Best Self Behavioral Health. “And that it doesn't mean you have to go to counseling 24/7 or once a week or something like that. You don't have to live in a group home, you don't have to be afraid or live in the Buffalo Psychiatric Center or things like that. You can have a normal life."

Schieb encourages anyone who may need help to dial 211.
