The city’s Department of Parks and Recreation will close the Waipio Soccer Complex throughout the month of June to perform extensive field and facility maintenance projects.
The complex’s facilities are regularly maintained; however, the closure will provide the opportunity for DPR staff and Adopt-A-Park volunteers to rejuvenate the fields and amenities without daily wear and tear.
The work includes field aeration, verticutting, weed control, fertilizing, soil cultivation, irrigation repairs, sidewalk maintenance, renovating traffic islands, power washing, and additional plumbing inspections and repairs.
The 288-acre Waipio Soccer Complex is the state’s first and only soccer facility of its kind with 21 regulation fields, including a 5,000-seat stadium with lights for evening events. It serves tens of thousands of soccer players in Hawaii while hosting local and international tournaments.
