Families in Brooklyn came together for a day of service to honor Dr. Martin Luther King.

UJA Federation and Shorefront YM-YWHA hosted an event to make toys for animals living in shelters.

Volunteers crafted the toys from t-shirts, blankets, and other materials.

The toys will be given to The Rescue City Pet Adoption Center in Brooklyn.

"It's wonderful seeing everyone working together knowing it will make a puppy feel a little better," said Susan Fox.

This event was one of 40 hosted by the UJA Federation throughout the five boroughs, Long Island, and Westchester.
