DALLAS — We’re 95 days away from the start of Dallas’ main event, the State Fair of Texas, and Dallas Trinity FC announced their opponent for their match. The professional women’s soccer team will be facing off against international organization Club América Femenil in a friendly international match on Oct. 18.
Club América Femenil's home base is Mexico City and and competes in the Liga MX Femenil. The organization is one of only five clubs to have clinched the league title becoming a powerhouse in Mexican women's soccer.
“Hosting Club América at the Cotton Bowl during the State Fair of Texas® is a dream matchup that reflects the spirit of Dallas – diverse, passionate, and proud of its place on the international stage,” said Trip Neil, Founder and Chief Operations Officer of Dallas Trinity FC. “This is more than a game, it’s a celebration of women’s sports, and the powerful connection between Dallas and Mexico. We can’t wait to share this moment with our fans and our city.”
The friendly match will take place at the Cotton Bowl, just a week after a different kind of football: the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma.
The Cotton Bowl is expecting the usual big crowds this year with the Red River Rivalry and the State Fair Classic between HBCUs Grambling State University and Prairie View A&M. And now, there will be a new element of soccer to throw in the mix of fair activities. It is important to know that the Cotton Bowl is Dallas Trinity FC’s home field.
Dallas Trinity FC is one of eight teams in the newly created USL Super League.
“We’re excited to partner with the State Fair of Texas to bring international soccer to the Cotton Bowl,” said Trip Neil, founder and chief operating officer of Dallas Trinity FC. “This collaboration allows us to celebrate the global nature of soccer while honoring the rich history of the Cotton Bowl and the cultural significance of the State Fair of Texas. We look forward to welcoming fans from across the world to experience this match and all that the Fair has to offer.”
Additional details about the opponent and ticketing information are still to come, according to Dallas Trinity FC.
The State Fair of Texas kicks off on Sept. 26 and runs through Oct. 19.
