A building in the Bronx is giving its residents an affordable place to live along with the support they need to thrive.

After living on the streets for a year, Terria Smith found a home at Webster Green in Norwood.

The building offers supportive and affordable apartments to those who have struggled to keep a roof over their heads.

"We all came in here with different problems. Mental issues. And they try to give whatever support they can give. Cause you know they can't fix everything," Smith said.

While many residents give the building high marks, so too does The National Association of Homebuilders.

It recently recognized the building with its 2020 best in America living award.

Carmen Cavallero lives in one of the building's affordable units.

She says it gave her the chance to stay in the neighborhood she's lived in the last 40 years.

"This is my lovely world. Thank God. I love this place," she said.

The building is part of the DOE fund.

The nonprofit has been providing affordable housing since 1996.
