SAN ANTONIO -- There's an app for just about everything these days, so why not try one for your school's cafeteria?
Judson ISD has used an online version of its cafeteria menus for years now, but a company called Nutrislice is taking lunchtime technology to a new level.
Nutrislice is available both online and through a mobile app. Each shows parents and children what is on the menu months in advance.
The program gives very specific calorie counts, nutrition content descriptions, and pictures of breakfast, lunch, side and snack items.
"We just wanted to take that extra step and provide the best possible product we can to our constituants, to our families, to our students," said Judson Child Nutrition Services Director Robert Jones. "We thought this would be a great way to do it and give an all-encompassing look to see what we're doing."
Judson is the first school district we know of in the San Antonio area to try this particular program and app.
Most districts do offer menu breakdowns online. If you have questions, you should contact your child's school district.
