Time Warner Cable News highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment "App Wrap." Time Warner Cable News’ Adam Balkin filed the following report.
The Vinyl District
April 18, Record Store Day is a day that celebrates brick and mortar stores still selling vinyl, yet in a strange twist, we are about to show you some ways to take advantage of the occasion via your mobile device, one of the devices helping to push vinyl into obscurity. The first is The Vinyl District, an app that helps you find record stores near you. Just launch the store locator section and up pops a list, or switch to map view, complete with directions and reviews. There is also a section for news, all news related to vinyl albums. And the third aspect of the app is a little social network built in where those who still spin their records can virtually meet up and share information, news, anything having to do with real records. The Vinyl District is a free app for iOS and Android devices.
Vinyl - The Real Record Player
There are few of these out there but Vinyl - The Real Record Player app is particularly neat for a few reasons. First, what it is - a way, on your iPad, to play records every bit as you would on a real player. Lift and place the arm, flick the on/off switch, set the speed, and the turntable even adds the scratches, crackles, and richness you’d hear if you played an actual 45. Where this one differs from the others, it allows you to choose from a handful of record players from decades past. Each has its own, unique sound, in particular the toy record player. Vinyl - The Real Record Player app is right now for iPads only for $3.99.
