Mayor Bill de Blasio is asking New Yorkers to limit power usage as the intense heat wave continues, with some areas already seeing outages.
“I'm asking every New Yorker to be a part of this, turn off anything you don't need to be on right now,” said de Blasio. “If you can wait until tomorrow to use certain appliances, wait. This is what we have to do."
The mayor said there are a number of localized outages across the five boroughs, including in Williamsburg, where 1,7000 customers are without power.
Con Edison is currently assisting the neighborhood, supplying dry ice to help keep food cool, officials said. An air-conditioned MTA bus has also been brought in to help keep residents cool.
The mayor warns there could be more outages over the next few days if New Yorkers don’t limit their power usage.
