OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Five people were killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Florida Turnpike in Kenansville on Sunday night, according to officials.
At around 7:38 p.m., a 2004 E-350 van crashed on the turnpike at mile marker 211 in Osceola County, stated the Florida Highway Patrol in a press release.
The FHP stated the driver lost control of the van from a possible tire malfunction. The van flipped over several times before running off the road and struck a guardrail before overturning in a ditch.
“There have been five confirmed fatalities on scene. There have been multiple occupants transported to area hospitals via air care,” stated the FHP.
In an updated press release, FHP said there was a total of 12 people in the van.

It is unclear if anyone wore seatbelts, stated FHP. Authorities have not released the names of the victims.
Five people were taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center, two to Holmes Regional Medical Center.
The northbound lanes were closed, but have reopened early Monday morning. While it was still closed, traffic was being diverted to exit 193/State Road 60.
The crash is under investigation.
