Parents of students at Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn demanded answers Tuesday after the school was placed under an hours-long lockdown following the stabbing of a 15-year-old boy inside.

ā€œI want my son. I want to take my son home,ā€ parent Zoila Llangari told NY1.

The NYPD says that at around 9:30 a.m., a student stabbed a fellow student in the stomach with a knife before running off.

The victim was taken to Maimonides Medical Center and is expected to be fine.

Students were finally dismissed at 3:30 p.m. Some were seen cheering after they say they remained in classrooms as police investigated.

ā€œLady tells us to get in the classroom. We get in. Weā€™re on hold then. Back on hold. Then rest of day, weā€™re on hold. We got no food,ā€ student Anthony Spencer said.

Spencer said that students had to get searched after the incident.

ā€œPeople had to get searched. All that looking for someone who wasnā€™t even in the school, which I find crazy,ā€ Spencer said.

Frustrated parents and students say the principal communicated poorly and did not alert them until 2 hours after the incident.

ā€œNYPD is currently conducting an investigation and our community had a lock and hold as NYPD are currently in our building,ā€ principal Alan Barge wrote in an email.

Barge also wrote that ā€œevery precaution was taken and will continue to be taken to ensure the safety of our students and staff.ā€

Parent Yolanda Washington told NY1 that she thought the school had good security and was concerned to hear about Tuesday's incident.

ā€œI want to talk to the school because they stressed the security was tight. You canā€™t even go out for lunch. So how people getting in here unknown or that is in here with a weapon?ā€ Washington said.

The NYPD says they have a person of interest in custody. Sources say the suspect is also 15 years old.
