LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) said consumer spending habits can go a long way in driving the city forward. In light of Black Lives Matter protests comes a push to support black-owned businesses.

"I think people often slip into the mindset of I'm just a consumer and want to get things as cheap and as fast as I can, but they forget to think about what kind of community they want to live in," Jennifer Rubenstein of LIBA said.

LIBA is encouraging members to take an introspective look at inner beliefs and business practices, further read up on and educate themselves on the movement and look into ways they can support the black community.

Some area businesses have put up signs in support of the movement, posted statements on social media, or are even donating some of the proceeds to organizations that support the cause.
