A Columbia University student is suing the Trump administration after he was arrested at an immigration office in Vermont.

Mohsen Mahdawi was born in the West Bank, and attended Columbia University, where he also participated in pro-Palestinian protests.

At the time of his arrest, Madawi was attending his naturalization interview. His legal team claims he was targeted by the Trump administration.

Last week, a Louisiana Judge ruled the government can deport activist and legal permanent resident Mahmoud Khalil. The judge gave Khalil’s legal team until April 23 to request a stay of deportation.

The case has sparked conversations about the role of free speech on college campuses, and the rights of international students who have visas to study in the U.S.

Conor Fitzpatrick, supervising attorney at the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, joined “The Rush Hour” on Monday to discuss where the line of the First Amendment is being drawn.
