Service changes to the NYC Ferry system meant to increase seat capacity over the summer went into effect Monday, officials said.

The most significant schedule changes, which were announced May 16, will be felt in the Rockaways, where afternoon service is no longer fixed at the same time each hour.

To reduce delays, NYC Ferry said it is now using their highest-capacity vessels for the popular Rockaway route.

Starting May 30, weekday South Brooklyn route service to Governors Island will also be extended, until approximately 9:20 p.m., NYC Ferry said.

NYC Ferry riders can make a free transfer to the Governors Island Shuttle at Wall St/Pier 11.

For summertime holidays, NYC Ferry will operate on a weekend schedule for Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4 and Labor Day.
