The city witnessed historic-low murders and shootings last year.
The NYPD said preliminary statistics show there were 290 murders and 790 shootings in 2017.
This marks the first time since at least the 1950s that the five boroughs recorded fewer than 300 murders in a year, far lower than the record 2,245 in 1990.
The mayor and NYPD will hold a briefing this week to discuss the crime numbers in more detail.
