Election season is around the corner and next year's presidential election is already beginning to take shape.
While most voters in the state are registered Democrats, a growing portion of voters are unaffiliated with a political party.
According to the New York State Board of Elections, there are nearly 2.8 million active unaffiliated voters, which now outnumbers the 2.6 million active registered Republicans statewide.
The nonprofit advocacy organization Unite New York is looking to advance the influence of this growing number of unaffiliated voters by calling for measures like term limits, open primaries and easier ways for candidates to get their names on the ballot.
Unite New York also says the two-party system has become too polarized.
The executive director of Unite New York, Tim Dunn, joined host Errol Louis Tuesday night on "Inside City Hall" to discuss the goals of his organization, political parties and more.
