More than 60 parks organizations including New Yorkers for Parks and the City Parks Foundation held a Citywide Park Cleanup Day on Saturday.

The day of civic engagement aims to help clean, beautify and maintain the city's open spaces.

This comes as city parks have seen an unprecedented increase in use during the pandemic but suffered significant decreases in maintenance due to budget cuts.

Funding to the NYC Parks Department was cut by 14 percent in the city budget, resulting in the loss of 1,700 seasonal maintenance staff. As part of the cleanup day, New Yorkers volunteered at parks across the five boroughs to pick up trash, rake and paint benches.
