PATASKALA, Ohio — The Licking County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post it responded to an incident at Summit Station Intermediate school, which involved an object believed to be drug paraphernalia.
In a statement, the Licking Heights Local School District said it was a "pipe device" found at a nearby park near the school.
Out of caution, school officials had contacted emergency medical personnel, who assessed and treated the students involved.
Students are currently receiving the medical attention they need, the sheriff's office said. Families have also been notified.
The sheriff's office added it was an isolated incident, and there's no ongoing threat to students, staff or the community.
"Emergency medical services were called immediately to ensure that students did not accidentally have contact with an illicit substance," Licking Heights administration wrote in a release. "We take our commitment to being a drug-free district extremely seriously at Licking Heights, and student safety will always be our top priority. Please remind your students to always be cautious of foreign objects and potential drug risks–and if they see something, to say something."
The incident is under investigation.
"We thank the staff of Licking Heights School District for their swift action and cooperation, as well as the medical teams who responded quickly and professionally," Licking County Sheriff's Office wrote in the post.
