Now entering third decade as a journalist, Paul Brown reports the latest political news to Central Texas viewers as Time Warner Cable News' anchor of "Capital Tonight." Paul started his news gathering experience in Austin as a graduate of the University of Texas.

Before arriving to TWC News in 2003, he was news director and anchor at KTXS-TV in Abilene. During his 10 years there, he helped lead his news staff to numerous awards, including a four-year span when his colleagues won a record 65 Texas Associated Press Broadcasters awards.

Over the years, judges with the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters have also recognized Paul as one of the state’s top anchors and reporters. His reporting for the TWC News documentary on the 40th anniversary of the University of Texas tower shooting earned him a Lone Star Emmy nomination, two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio-Television News Directors Association and two TAPB honors.

Political reporting is a staple of Paul’s career. As a reporter at WROC-TV in Rochester, NY, he interviewed presidential candidate Bill Clinton, former vice presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro and New York Gov. Mario Cuomo. While a reporter in Abilene, he also sat down with Texas gubernatorial candidate Ann Richards in 1990. In 2006, he interviewed every candidate running for Texas governor. And during the 2008 presidential campaign, he had the chance to interview Hillary Clinton. In 2012, Paul took "Capital Tonight" on the road, reporting from the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, and the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Since then, some of his notable interviews include Gov. Greg Abbott, and current and former presidential candidates including then-Gov. Rick Perry, Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Marco Rubio, former Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Sen. Rick Santorum, and then-Congressman Ron Paul. He has also moderated numerous forums featuring state and local candidates.

Service to his profession and the community remain an important aspect of Paul’s life. He has served as chairman of the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters and has judged numerous journalism competitions. He also served on the board of the nonprofit groups Service Dogs Inc. and Neighborhood Longhorns Program.

Paul has a B.S. in Radio-TV-Film from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his master’s degree from UT’s School of Journalism, where he is currently a Ph.D. candidate. He also teaches journalism at Austin Community College.

When not at work or school, Paul spends time with his wife and three sons, who are busy with their own high school, college and professional activities. Paul’s also a runner and completed his first marathon in 2015.
