More than $3 million in tickets have resulted from school zone speeding cameras in the city of Albany.
Darius Shahinfar, the Albany city treasurer, says of that money, $1.29 million goes to the city, which is about 40% of the revenue.
The main offenders of the speeding in school zones are predominantly people from out of town. They account for about 70% of all tickets.
Albany's school zone speed camera system tickets drivers speeding in school zones on school days between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. When a driver is captured going more than 11 miles over the 20 mph limit, they'll soon get notice of the violation in their mailbox with a $50 fine and a link to watch the infraction on video.
